The committee has begun its work to discern God's will for this parish.
We are searching for a new Rector who will fulfill that vision
according to God's will.
Please pray for guidance for the committee.
December 2007 to Present

The committee has been meeting regularly to review CDO profiles of candidates for
rector.  Candidates have been asked to complete questions that were created by the
committee and to submit  two sermons.  The committee has been reviewing all submitted
materials.

The committee is still accepting names for our position of Rector.

November 25, 2007

The committee discussed discerning God's will.  Passages from the book Calling Clergy
written by Elizabeth Rankin Geitz were used to initiate the discussion.  Karen read a
section from the book which included "As you listen prayerfully to the other members of
your Discernment Committee in the weeks and months ahead, you might want to keep
asking yourself one question:
What is best for our church as a whole?  Not, what will
advance the particular cause or area of the church for which I care most deeply, but what,
and specifically
whom, is God calling us to move forward in this process?"

The committee also approved a list of questions for candidates interested in the position
of Rector.
Click here to see the letter that will be mailed or can be obtained online.  The
committee continued to examine CDO profiles.  This process will continue at the next
meeting.

The committee will next meet on Sunday, December 2 at 7 PM.

November 18, 2007

The committee is in the process of creating a list of questions for interested candidates
that will be posted on the website.  The committee has received requests for copies of
our Parish Profile from interested candidates through the website.  The committee has
also begun to review Church Deployment Office profiles of candidates seeking a new
position.  This process will continue at the next meeting.

The committee will next meet on Sunday, November 25 at 7 PM.

October 7, 2007

The committee met and approved a display ad for the Living Church Magazine.  With
Vestry approval, the ad will appear in the November 11 and January 7 issues of the
magazine.  (November 11 is the special Christmas issue and January 7 is Parish
Administration Issue which is issued to approximately twice as many people than are
subscribed.)

Our position for rector  has just been posted by the Church Deployment Office.

You will need to download the document.
Our parish is in Province 3.

The committee will next meet after we begin receiving inquiries and applications.  A
tentative meeting date is scheduled for November 18.

September 9, 2007

The committee made final revisions to the Parish Profile and the Parish Search Request
from the Church Deployment Office.  The final copies will be presented to the Vestry on
Tuesday, September 18.  If the Vestry approves these documents, they will then be sent to
the Church Deployment Office.  Our position of Rector will then be posted online through
the Church Deployment Office of the Episcopal Church.  The committee will then begin to
receive names of candidates.
The Parish Profile can be viewed by clicking here.

The committee is also investigating various church publications where we might put a
paid advertisement.

The committee also reviewed a Confidentiality Statement.  All information about
prospective candidates will be kept in the strictest confidence by the committee.

The committee will next meet on Sunday, October 7 at 7 PM.

July 29, 2007

The committee discussed sharing the summary of the parish survey results at 9 AM
between Sunday services for those interested.

Sections of the Parish Profile were distributed and discussed.  Micah will be putting all of
the  sections together to create our Parish Profile.

Once the profile is completed, we can send our information to the Diocese to have it
posted  by  the Church Deployment Office.

The next meeting of the committee will be on Sunday, September 9, at 7 PM.

July 22, 2007

The committee reviewed the survey results.  A summary of those results may be found
here.  The results will also be shared with the parish at a later time.
results.

The last Parish Profile was reviewed.  Each member of the committee was given a section
revise, rewrite, and update for the next meeting.

Karen will be meeting with a member from the diocese to discuss our next steps in the
search  process.

The next meeting will be held on Sunday, July 29, at 7 PM.

July 15, 2007

The committee tallied the information from the surveys.  The results are being put
together.

The committee will be reviewing this information at the next meeting on Sunday, July 22.

June 3, 2007

The committee reviewed and approved a final copy of the survey that will access the
views of the parishioners of Calvary Church.   The committee also edited the Chimes
mailing list to ensure that all members of the parish, who are 12 years and older, receive a
survey.  The surveys will be printed and mailed on Monday, June 4.

The committee tried to ensure that all members of the parish would receive a survey.  If
anyone does not receive a survey in the next few days, please email this website
(click
here) or call the church at 610-459-2013.

Completed Surveys may be mailed back to the church or deposited in the box at the back
of the church
PLEASE  return only one survey per  envelope.  The postage on the
envelope is based on weight.

The next meeting of the committee will be on Sunday, July 15.  At that time, the committee
will tabulate the results of the survey.  The next goal of the committee is to complete the
Parish  Profile that will be posted on the internet and posted to prospective candidates.

If you have any suggestions or concerns, please contact a member of the committee or
email this website

May 20, 2007

The committee reviewed a rough draft of a survey that will access the views of the
parishioners of Calvary Church.  The survey will be sent to all people ages 12 and above
of the parish.  The results of the survey will be part of the Parish Profile that will be sent
to applicants and posted on our website.  The purpose of the survey is to determine the
views of the parish as to the ministries and activities that are important.  The survey will
also try to determine those qualities that are desired for our new Rector.

At the next meeting, revisions and additions to the rough draft of the survey will be
reviewed.  It is hoped that a final copy of the survey will be then completed.  The
committee hopes that  the survey will be in the mail to parishioners by June 9.  Completed
surveys will then be either  mailed or returned to the church by Sunday, June 24.

The committee will also be putting together a mailing list of all those who should receive
this survey.  This list will be reviewed at the next meeting.

The next meeting of the committee will be on Sunday, June 3.

If you have any concerns or suggestions, please contact a member of the committee.

May 6, 2007

The Discernment Committee to find a new rector for Calvary Church was formed and met
for  the first time. Committee members were elected by members of the Vestry and
represent well  the diversity of the parish.  The members are Karen, Micah, Joe, Sally,
Dottie, Bonnie, Fran, Maggie, Ellie, and Emily. Karen was unanimously elected as the
chairperson of the committee.

The committee set its goal as being able to present the best candidate to the Vestry in
time to have him/her start in late spring of 2008.

The first step of the committee is to prepare a Parish Profile. This document will include
information about the Vestry, committees, organizations, financial status, property, and
projected growth and change of Calvary Church. A major part of this profile will include
information gathered from parishioners. All members of the parish will be asked to
complete avey of the ministries and activities that are valued the most at Calvary, alongh
the characteristics and qualities the parish is looking for in the next rector.

Designing and producing the survey will be the topic of the next meeting which is
scheduled  for May 20.

If you have any concerns or suggestions, please contact a member of the committee.
